JMIR Publications Welcomes Ricardo Correa as Co-Editor-in-Chief of JMIR Diabetes

In his new role with JMIR Diabetes, Ricardo Correa, MD, EdD, FACE, FACP, FACMQ, will be working closely with co-Editor-in-Chief Sheyu Li, MD, from West China Hospital, Sichuan University in China.

Dr Correa is the program director of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Program and the director of health equity and inclusive initiatives at Cleveland Clinic. He completed his medical school and master’s in education at the University of Panama. He completed a research fellowship in epidemiology and tropical disease at ICGES in Panama City and an internal medicine residency program at Jackson Memorial hospital-University of Miami. In 2012, he was honored with the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Doc award from the University of Miami. Then, he pursued his clinical and research fellowship in endocrinology with a particular focus on neuroendocrinology and adrenals at the National Institute of Health.

Dr Correa is board certified in medical quality. He is the author of the book titled Case Report: Basics and Publication (2016) and the senior co-editor of the book Endocrinology of Aging (Elsevier; 2020). His research focuses on neuroendocrinology, mainly on pituitary and adrenal tumor and health care disparities in diabetes in Latinx populations. His clinical focus is on transgender medicine and health disparities in underserved populations. 

He serves as a medical director (volunteer) for an underserved clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, and is very involved in promoting underrepresented minorities in medicine. He is the founder of the health equity fellowship program at the Creighton School of Medicine in Phoenix.
